2019 Recipient Austin J Sundstrom

At our February 27, 2019 Civil War Round Table of Fredericksburg meeting, Greg Mertz, Supervisory Historian with the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Park, introduced our 2019 Honorary Albert Z. Conner Internship recipient, Austin J. Sundstrom.Austin is from Chicago, Illinois. He has a bachelor’s in history from Northern Illinois University and is currently a graduate student in Public History at Loyola University – Chicago. Austin wrote an interesting paper about a song “Who Will Save the Left” and the myth of the 19th Illinois Infantry at the Battle of Stones River regarding the role of the unit on the left flank of the army during the last day of the battle. He has also written articles on Vicksburg and Shiloh for Military Images Magazine.
