CWRTC Lecture: THE SECESSION OF LOUISIANA
Start Time: 7:00 PM
End Time: 8:00 PM

Speaker: EDDIE VAUGHN

Of all the states located in the Deep South, Louisiana was in fact the least likely to join the secession movement of 1860-1861. From the very first year of statehood, Louisiana demonstrated an uncanny ability to pick Presidential election winners. Such a record for prognostications proves that Louisiana was not a leader in national politics but was always a part of the popular mainstream. The Presidential Election of 1860 would challenge the voting record of the Pelican state as none before. Still, Louisiana tried to remain in her traditional position of steering clear of controversy for as long as she could. Travel back to the Presidential election of 1860, as we explore the events that led Louisiana to take an uncharted political path.
