Matthew Christopher Hulbert is an Elliott Associate Professor of History at Hampden Sydney College. In addition to the Civil War and Reconstruction, he teaches courses on the American West, guerrilla violence, film, and the history of hunting and fishing in America. He is the author or editor of five books, most recently Oracle of Lost Causes: John Newman Edwards and His Never-Ending Civil War, released by Bison Books in Fall 2023.
